Totals

US shrimp imports reached 795,641 MT in 2025 (+2% YoY), while total value climbed to $7.03 billion (+9% YoY).

The year clearly split into two phases. The first half was exceptionally strong, with double-digit growth through July and June peaking at 73,051 MT (+35%). From August onward, however, volumes turned negative. October fell 21% YoY, November 14%, and December closed at 62,990 MT (-11%).

Value followed a similar pattern but declined less sharply in Q4, indicating firmer average prices. December ended at $590 million (-5% YoY).

In essence, the modest full-year volume growth was entirely supported by a strong first half, while the second half reflected tariff effects and trade disruptions.

Products

Peeled frozen shrimp remained the dominant format, totaling 408,408 MT (+6% YoY). Growth was concentrated in the first half, particularly June (+46%), before softening in Q4.

Shell-on frozen shrimp declined to 201,520 MT (-4% YoY), continuing its gradual structural erosion in the US market.

Cooked and marinated products reached 119,907 MT (+4% YoY), though Q4 weakness reduced momentum built earlier in the year.

Breaded shrimp ended at 58,752 MT (-3% YoY), with notable volatility and a weak December (-28%).

Top Five Suppliers

India remained the largest supplier at 300,051 MT (+1% YoY), but the annual stability masks a dramatic shift. Shipments were very strong through July, reflecting heavy preloading ahead of the 50% reciprocal tariff environment. Once the higher duty took effect, volumes collapsed. October fell 57% YoY, November 32%, and December 19%. India’s Q4 contraction clearly reflects a post-tariff adjustment after aggressive front-loading earlier in the year.

Ecuador was the clear structural winner in 2025, reaching 231,804 MT (+18% YoY). Once india got hit with full tariffs, Ecuador’s volumes surged in September (+23%), October (+52%), November (+56%), and December (+25%).

Indonesia ended the year at 119,331 MT (-11% YoY). While volumes were already softening late summer, the decline intensified sharply from October onward, coinciding with the Cesium-137 issue affecting Indonesian shrimp shipments. October fell 34% YoY, November 49%, and December collapsed 72% YoY to just 3,641 MT. Volumes will rebound in Q1 2026 as the situation has been resolved and higher exports from Indonesia were observed in December already.

Vietnam closed at 64,413 MT (-7% YoY). The year was volatile, with a strong June but extended weakness in the second half, though December showed some recovery (+17%).

Thailand ended at 26,958 MT (-4% YoY), with uneven performance throughout the year and a modest rebound in December (+9%).
